This is nuts. Crazed. An act fostered by rigid, narrow minded people paralyzed by fear. How sad, sad, sad on so many levels.

Let's hope the Alabama Supreme court won't let it happen. *flails*

You know, it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

That's the way it always is in the struggle for civil rights. We can only hope that this is a sign that things will change for the better, despite the power these foul ignorant assholes hold.

What we need to do is keep shouting--don't let the bastards think we're complacent about it.

I see so many people who just don't care, because it "doesn't effect them". Those people should read Niemoller's poem.

We need to care. Gay, straight, bi, man woman, whatever. For first-gens like Del and Phyllis and for the future, for people like you and Arthur. It's why Americans need to stay in America and be the change we want to happen. All these people who want to high-tail it to Canada aren't going to change anything. :/

It works for me, but in case you still can't get it;

First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me.

I think you're right. Backlash isn't surprising, but it's painful. Hopefully it's two steps forward, one step back, and not the reverse.

I have read exactly one-and-a-third Sandman novels, and have encountered at least three gay characters.

The cool thing is they're not all perfect, angelic characters. They're human (at least the ones I've seen), just like everyone in RL.
