Who says you can't have it all?

Wow, that's beautiful. It's also more and more wonderful, for me, to hear from women who've had their children later in life. I know that will be the case for me. I remember when I was a kid and my mom was the "room mother" in my class at school -- she would make cupcakes for holidays and chaperone field trips and stuff, and I loved it. But I was always aware too, though, that my mom was older than my friends' moms (I was born when she was 31 -- considered back in 1975 to be mighty damn late in her life). It's so nice to know that even if I don't have my first child until I'm 35 or so, I may well be among my own peers when I'm a "room mother" at school.

Re: Who says you can't have it all?

I think about having more kids even now, and I'm 44. There'd be surgery and probably IVF involved, though, so bleh.

Re: Who says you can't have it all?

Okay, so the "surgery" part doesn't sound like fun at all. But IVF -- it's expensive, and the odds aren't ideal, but hey, if you want it, I say go for it. 44 is plenty young enough to have another baby! Have you heard of Single Mothers By Choice? This has been a big resource for me already. You might enjoy a prowl around their site.

Re: Who says you can't have it all?

Wouldn't you find it weird to have a child and grandchildren at or very close to the same age cause I know that having Luke and Hope that close to our children's age is wierd. I am not saying not to do it just a question?

Re: Who says you can't have it all?

I do too, at 42. It's hard to acknowledge my childbearing days are over sometimes. But to be perfectly honest, I don't think I'd have the energy to raise another baby/toddler. And yet... :o)

Re: Who says you can't have it all?

I think part of it is that I know I'd be a much better mother now than when I was when I was in my twenties. But still, when I see how terrific my kids turned/are turning out, I must have done something right.
