Except to say that I want to have Stephen Colbert's babies,do I really need to comment?

Weapons of mass destruction-related program activities!

Let's hope it's a good one without any fear:

A veteran sings about Iraq:

This song is featured on Take Me Home: A Sampler of American Artists for Peace , and 100% of the proceeds go to Veterans for Peace and their effort to bring the troops home from Iraq:

Sometimes I forget how much I love Ireland. This is also for newleaf31, because she'll love it, too. *hugs*

Same theme, different song:

And okay, so I'm a geek. Sue me:

Thank God you're a you-tube geek! Murder Most Likely - just great!

Oh, you can copy the clip quite easily. Do you use firefox? There is an extension called 'fast video download'.

I fail at having seen Murder Most Likely so that vid is kind of lost on me. But OMG Colbert! He is so my fake news anchor crush! That may well be my favorite "The Word" segment EVER. And god, weapons of mass destruction-related program activities. Could there have been a few more qualifiers tacked on there? *rolls eyes*

Plus, the vet's song? *points to goosebumps*

That's Country Joe McDonald, of Country Joe and the Fish fame. He's the author of the (in)famous Fish Cheer from Woodstock. The cool thing about him doing something like that is that he's a veteran himself. *loves*

Ooo. Murder Most Likely with Paul playing a creepy sociopath. Yummy.

I did some MML picpsam. You can find it here.

I don't know if it's up at the place but I do have it. I can burn a copy for you if you want.

I remember that picspam, very pretty. I figured I'd eventually see this but it's now officially on the top of the list (well, after Cold Comfort, but I actually have a copy of that one. *g*

I need to see that whole turning-off-the-emotion-like-a-lightswitch scene like last week.

I didn't see it at the Usual Spot, but I put in a request.

I'd love a copy! I'll email you with my address. Were you going to burn a copy of Curtis' Charm for me once? I'd completely forgotten about that, and I also forgot to email you. *facepalm* At least I think it was you. I've got a mind like a sieve. *sigh*

Hurrah! Murder Most Likely! Probably the first thing that Paul did where he was less of the pretty face and more of the "Wow, fuck, did he just act that?!".

It's a very good movie in my view - very much a TV movie and you are never allowed to forget that (which is probably the worst thing about it) - Paul is excellent whilst being utterly creepy, scary and sexy in turn. It was obviously designed as an anti-Benton Fraser vehicle and he accomplishes that goal tremendously well. The character he plays is, on paper, completely unappealing and despicable, but because it is Paul, you immediately see why everyone bends over backwards to give him money and new chances. Without that charm and gravitas that he has in spades, the entire character would never work.

Look out for two scenes in particular: One where he is being utterly verbally abusive and taunting to his depressed wife, it'll scare the crap out of you, and one where his character rehearses his 'grieving' face. Chilling as heck.

As a plus point,Martha has the world's worst hair-style (and never shares a scene with her husband, sadly) and you see the early signs of the chemistry between Paul and Steven Ouimette.

This is the scene that I want to see the most, I think.

Poor Martha. She gets better hairstyles in later roles, thank god. :)

I've been wanting to see Stephen Ouimette in something else, too, so this is extra-good.

Uh, except... ow...! Good satire stings, y'know?

Love those Ireland vids -- the Cranberries one is especially powerful to me. Fortunately, it's been a few years since the country's looked quite like that, complete with paramilitaries and all. But it's still not a nation at peace. One of my students this semester is from Portadown in Armagh. For our Exodus course, the students had to write papers and sermons on one of the 10 Commandments. Tracey wrote an exegesis of the third commandment (the one about "taking the Lord's name in vain," or as she more accurately translated it, "lifting up the Lord's name in hypocrisy"). Her sermon was to be delivered to her (Protestant) church in Portadown, and it was all about how both sides in the Irish conflict have misappropriated God's name, all throughout the Troubles. It was a really moving, stirring call for peace. She actually gave the sermon in class, and I must confess to some leaky eyes. I think you would really have been impressed.

I love "Zombie",just as a song, for the whole theme of "Get your heads out of the past and look around at the blood".

Her sermon was to be delivered to her (Protestant) church in Portadown, and it was all about how both sides in the Irish conflict have misappropriated God's name, all throughout the Troubles.

I wonder if she'd publish it anywhere. I'd love to see it.

No, I'm 99.99% certain she won't publish it. I may ask her if I could keep a copy, though I don't have a good academic reason to do so, I just found it meaningful. If I ultimately decide that's ethical, I'll figure out a way to send it to you.
