names have a certain sound for me (I'm sure that's true for everyone, but it's not the same sound for all of us). And for me, Fraser is not a "Ben". He just isn't. And so I like it when Ray either keeps calling him "Fraser" (because, yes, IMHO last names can be as familiar and gentle as first or nicknames), or starts calling him "Benton", because for me that's what he is.

OMG, you're right about this. Well, what I mean is, I agree. Thanks for articulating it so well. I've had RayK call him "Ben" in some of my earlier stuff, but I can't seem to get Ray to do it any more. In my head, he calls him "Fraser" or, more familiarly, "Frase." Since we hear Ray call him "Benton-buddy" one time, I think "Benton" might work sometimes, too. But Fraser it is, for most purposes.

What I like best about Denise Raymond's prequel is that the issue is addressed in a very cool way, and it's emphatic!Fraser who does it. It's just a great little fic all around.

I have to think about what Fraser calls himself, ficwise. It probably depends on the circumstances.

I love "Frase". It's very affectionate and very Ray. Also, yay, given the amount of fic that features "Ben" I always thought I were kinda weird not liking it.

I dunno if I don't like it. My inner Fraser doesn't like it.

Clearly I'm not playing with a full deck. Fishing in a stocked stream. [insert catchy phrase here that means 'completely unhinged'] Also, just to support the theory regarding my mental state, I'm now thinking, hey, I wonder what Dief calls him.
