Dear Boston Red Sox,

So, now it's second place.

Also, yeah. I mean, I'm just sayin'.

*sigh*,

I never did figure out why they traded Manny in the first place. Couldn't they have gone to whoever was unhappy with him and say "He's our star... just deal?" I suppose wasn't all that simple.

They still have a good shot at the wild card spot, though. Unlike, y'know, the Tigers.

I don't know what happened, but you'd think they'd sacrifice a little, y'know?

The real reason is probably the same reason they traded Pedro and Nomar and Trot Nixon and all my other favourite players all the way back to Carlton Fisk. They like toying with my emotions.

Fourth place sucks. Not making it to the playoffs since 1993 sucks even more. But what sucks most is a club that has now turned to marketing as the big ploy.

I could have lived with "Come see our brand new kids try their hand at the big AL monsters" in the re-forming years, but no - it was always "We can compete, come pay more to sit and be bombarded with ads and promotions for car companies, cell phones, Pizza Pizza and television services & enjoy your hot dog and bottled water for $9.75"...

...And nothing changes.

Hurts to be in the Blue Jay nest.

I HATE the ads. Fenway Park has an ad for Viagra right up front and centre so everyone can see it on television. At least you guys have Pizza Pizza (although eww. Pizza Pizza.). On the other hand, Fenway Park isn't named after a cable company. I think the citizens of Boston would riot if anyone even considered it--even the oh, say three people in Boston who aren't fans. We do have the TD Banknorth Garden, which used to be the Fleet Center, which used to be the Shawmut Center, which used to be the Boston Garden, before they tore it down and built a new one. And we don't have a stadium with a roof on it, which don't get me started on how much I hate the idea of playing baseball indoors.

Having said all that, I do like the Blue Jays (unless they're playing the Red Sox, in which case kill, kill). They remind me of the Sox back in the post- Impossible Dream years. The Sox got out of all that flailing and misdirection, and I think the Jays will, too. After all, you guys have already won two World Series (in a row, IIRC). It took us 86 years.
