From Tortiecat...

Hi -

I really liked what you had to say, except that I don't think Fraser/Kowalski is canon, and I get a little irked when I see statements saying that it is.

Now, I haven't seen all of the episodes featuring Kowalski yet, so maybe I'm not the best judge of whether or not F/K is canon, but I think that "riding off into the sunrise together" doesn't necessarily indicate a romantic relationship. After all, we don't know how long Fraser and Kowalski were gone on the adventure. Kowalski didn't handle the cold well in "COTW," so he may have wanted to return to Chicago very soon after he and Fraser set off on the adventure.

I think I could only accept F/K as canon, and RayV/Stella as canon too (contrary to what many believe, "COTW" never said that RayV and Stella married, only that they opened a bowling alley), if a "Due South" reunion movie had been made that showed Fraser and Kowalski together and RayV and Stella together. But the ending of "COTW" alone doesn't mean those relationships are romantic/canon.

I am very glad that you mentioned this:

Fraser and Ray Vecchio. See above. (and I do write, and read, F/V and F/K/V. But gah, platonic!F/V is so lovely. I don't understand why platonic is almost universally considered Less Than, when it's equally as awesome, dammit!).

My probably-very-unpopular opinion about the "Due South" fandom is that there is too, too much slash written and recommendeded - particularly too much F/K slash. The gen stories, including those featuring Fraser's and RayV's beautiful, caring friendship, get neglected as a result.

I really cannot understand that at all, and why the fandom seems to be becoming only a F/K slash fandom. I definitely did not start and keeping watching "Due South" because I wanted to see romantic relationships among Fraser and the Rays, or their romantic relationships with women. Their loving friendships with each other are simply wonderful and more than enough for fantastic fan fiction, IMO.

I think it's pretty rare on television to see two male friends who demonstrate how much they care about and love each other, so I don't understand why this platonic love is just brushed aside. Of course, with Fraser and RayV, it doesn't help that Fraser seems to regard his friendship with RayV as over in the last scenes of "COTW," and that he and RayV are separated by thousands of miles. I like to think that things turned out differently: Fraser and RayV renewed their loving friendshp after "COTW" and it became as strong as ever, particularly since RayV didn't stay in Florida long and moved back to Chicago, where he is closer to Canada to have visits with Fraser. Or maybe Fraser splits his time between Canada and RayV and the rest of his adopted family in Chicago.

Thanks for reading! :-)

Not sure what could irk you about me stating my opinion. In my own journal, btw, not that it really matters. I'm not irked that you disagree, although I must admit not understanding why people having differing opinions bothers you.

Kowalski didn't handle the cold well in "COTW," so he may have wanted to return to Chicago very soon after he and Fraser set off on the adventure.

Or he could have had issue with the cold because he fell out of an airplane with nothing but the clothes on his back. On a real Northern adventure, there was probably lots of Gore-tex involved. ;)

So write some. I might even read it. And don't read the ones you don't like. The internet is like that--people can read, or not read, what they choose.

Their loving friendships with each other are simply wonderful and more than enough for fantastic fan fiction, IMO.

See above re: write some.

Neither did I, specifically. But some people did. And that doesn't make you better than them.

See, that's what fanfiction is for, dude. If you don't like how something ends, fix it.

In conclusion, this (minus the Harry Potter reference):
